Southern rockers Marshall Tucker Band to celebrate 50th anniversary with Ryman show

Five decades after forming at a crossroads of country, rock 'n' roll and blues, the show rolls on for Southern rock staple Marshall Tucker Band.

The group celebrates a 50-year anniversary this week with a one-night performance at the Ryman Auditorium. Set for Wednesday, tickets start at $49.50 before fees via ryman.com

Traffic alumni Dave Mason plays main support and Atlanta Rhythm Section opens the show.

The show marks a rare milestone for the long-standing ambassadors to Southern rock — and Marshall Tucker Band co-founder Doug Gray doesn't plan on slowing any time soon. The band still plays about 100 gigs a year (when not sidelined by COVID-19, as with most touring entertainment).

"When you talk about 50 years, I would've never imagined," Gray, 73, told The Tennessean. "I like to see the lights come on and the crowd stand up. That's my main goal. That's where my life is."
