Friend & Fellow Southern Rocker, Doug Gray, Reflects On The Legacy Of Charlie Daniels
A week after Charlie Daniels was laid to rest, family, friends, and fellow musicians are still struggling to cope with his unexpected death due to a hemorrhagic stroke at the age of 83.
Longtime friend, and lead singer for The Marshall Tucker Band, Doug Gray, shared a close bond with Daniels that dates back to the early 70’s. He says Daniels was a strong, encouraging, and supportive force to everyone around him.
“Even though we weren’t far apart in age, a lot of us felt like he was the one person you can always turn to. It’s almost as though we’ve lost our ‘daddy,’ in a sense. I know there will be times I wish I could pick up the phone and call Charlie. I’m going to miss that more than anything.”
